Togo, one of the poorest nations on Earth, has agreed to pass a law banning the death penalty after negotiations with President Zapatero of Spain.

Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, President of Togo, said that the law would be known as Zapatero’s law. ABC pointed out that they hadn’t actually executed anyone since 1978.

In unrelated news, Spain agreed a further 250 million euros in aid to the nation.
