Almeria city to invest €100M in 2009
Luis Rogelio Rodríguez-Comendador, mayor of Almeria, has promised a “spectacular” 2009, in which more money than ever before will be poured into the city. With a once off capital injection of 33 million euros from Madrid, plus 31 million reinvestment from the town hall and the Junta de Andalucia, plus the usual annual budget, the mayor promises a year in which roads will be reformed, infrastructure improved and the city given a unique facelift.
Project mooted include putting the Ronda road underground from Pabellon Moises Ruiz to the Estacion Intermodal (allowing quick access from the Med Stadium to the bottom centre of the city), making the centre of the city a much more pedestrian friendly area, new fair area, improved roads and access and public transport.
You can tell there is a recession on because…
…all government press releases on projects contracted suddenly have the expected number of jobs created included in a prominent position.
I.E.: “The Junta announces an improvement project for the Huercal Overa – Pulpi road. Costing 13,5 million euros, and expected to last 30 months, this project will create 236 jobs (137 directly and 99 indirectly)”. See Story.
How do they calculate “indirect jobs”? Working out how many waiters, chefs and prostitutes are needed to service the “direct” jobs?
Pulpi to Carboneras road gets go ahead
The road from Pulpi to Carboneras (part of the ambitious Llano Central plan) is being signed off today. It consists in improving and upgrading the Garrucha to Pulpi coast road (double carrageway in places), a new bypass from Las Bouganvillas, Garrucha, to the current Mojacar – [Garrucha-Los Gallardos] crossroads, then continuing past the Mojacar petrol station roundabout behind Mojacar Playa to Carboneras. Should be nice. No doubt the residents of La Parata and similar will start moaning again about the bypass, which should have been built years ago.
No word on when it will be built, but the feasability studies will start soon and monies are being reserved for the construction.
