Mojácar loses prettiest town title

Mojácar has lost its title of prettiest coastal town. The title has now gone to Nerja. Mojácar actually came sixth in the voting – Ribadeo (Lugo), Conil (Cádiz), Santoña (Cantabria), Alcanar (Tarragona),  Deba (Guipúzcoa) were all ahead of our local village. In case you were wondering, this prestigious award comes courtesy of online hotel portal “Hotel Info”. 27 towns entered this years competition. Never mind Mojácar – we still love you!

Mojacar voted Andalucia’s third most beautiful village

Mojácar has been voted the third most beautiful village in Andalucia by Radio Cadena Ser. The Radio has a travel network and has been polling its customers. The winner is Frigiliana in Málaga, followed by Priego in Córdoba. The “harmony of its white walls” or the “traditional architecture” were all mentioned as factors.

50 families interested in Bayarcal free homes offer in the first week

Bayárcal town hall, which is offering three free homes to anyone with kids who wants to go and live there, has been swamped with offers in the first week. In a sign of the economic times, 50 families from across the province have so far filled in application forms.

Bayarcal offering free homes to families to prevent school closure

The tiny village of Bayárcal, up above Almeria in the Alpujarras, has seen its population dip below the level deemed necessary to keep the village school open. There are only 360 people in the village, most of them elderly, and just 14 children.
