400 extras wanted for a cowboy film

Adecco Audiovisual is looking for 400 extras for a cowboy film being filmed in Tabernas between the 21st Sept and 23 Oct. Castings will take place next Monday in a hotel in Almeria city. People with good English accents may be offered a speaking part ( ! ) First come, first served warns Adecco, in an apparent attempt to provoke a riot on the day.

Tabernas gets medical helipad

A medical helipad has opened in Tabernas, the eighth in the province. The idea behind these helipads is ambulances attending critical accidents can radio for a medical helicopter to transport the patient to the main hospital in Almeria, then meet the helicopter at the helipad and transfer the patient, saving at least a half hour vehicle trip to Almería. Berja is in a state of panic after the Mayor hit the emergency button, after seeing a “panther” in the park. The small town (above and to the left of Almeria city) has been running around in a panic ever since residents started reporting a large feline roaming loose in the local park. Calar Alto observatory may be forced to close after budget cuts of 75%

La Voz de Almería reports that Calar Alto, the observatory high on the hills above the desert of Tabernas, is on the brink of closure after seeing its budget slashed by 70%. “The only rational choice at this budget level” reports the director of the Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía (IAA-CSIC), Matilde Fernández, in an interview, “is to lay off staff and put our multi-million euro telescopes into storage”. Almeria bids to hosting Las Vegas in Europe – could “EuroVegas” be here?

An official consortium of Almerian businesses have tendered a project suggesting that Sheldon Adelson, the US billionaire, builds his infamous “EuroVegas” in Tabernas desert, Almería. Sheldon wants to replicate Las Vegas in Europe, and is currently debating between spending billions building casinos and hotels in a new macrocity outside Madrid or Barcelona. Doctor Who being filmed in Tabernas!

According to The Sun, an episode of Doctor Who is being filmed right here in Tabernas. The episode involves cowboys, and so Matt Smith (the doctor) and Karen Gillan (Amy Pond), along with guest star Adrian Scarbourough (Pritchard the butler from Upstairs Downstairs, and who has guest role in the episode) have travelled to Tabernas to do battle with a half human half robot Terminator like creature amongst the Tabernas film sets. Carboneras desalination plant FINALLY connected to the network, but I bet you still can’t drink the water

150,000 people will start to receive desalinated water from the Carboneras plant, after the Minister for the Environment opened the taps to allow water to flow from Carboneras to the Levante water network.
