Flashfloods in north of province

Heavy storms last night in the north of the province have resulted in several rivers starting to flow at this unusual time of year, and a flash flood. The river Nacimiento was full as it flowed past the villages of Abla and Fiñana this morning, after rain in the Sierra de los Filabres. Flash flood sensors to be installed across Levante

12 flash flood sensors – advanced automated met metering stations – will be installed in flash flood prone rivers across the Levante and the North of the province to give advance warning of events like the Vera Playa flood. The system is being installed and maintained by the Confederación Hidrográfica del Segura (CHS), the government agency in charge of water supplies for the rio Segura water area (Murcia). Antas bridge to be rebuilt

The bridge at Antas that collapsed during the Sept 2012 storms is finally going to be rebuilt. Four out of the 15 spans of this bridge were washed away in the flood. The new section of the bridge will replace these with just two spans, which will allow 167% more water underneath, it seems. It’s being built by Progall (surprise!) at a cost of €358.000. 7 metre whale found in Huelva city centre

Okay, in the river as it passes through the city centre. After receiving several hysterical phone calls about this massive thing blocking the river, Policía Portuaria, Guardia Civil, Bomberos, Policía Local & Salvamento Marítimo all set out to join in the fun, but the animal died before anything could be done to save it.
