Been interviewed for Canal Sur Radio!

I was interviewed today by Antonio Cattoni for Canal Sur Radio’s late night show “Para tí”. Ostensibly the interview was about this blog but we soon veered off into a pleasant chat about the Brits in Spain, John Lennon (that was a bit of a curveball) and the difference between un íngles and los britanicos. I was also able to get a dig in about the Junta’s tourism strategy… ah hem. Nice chap, and it’s Continue reading Been interviewed for Canal Sur Radio!

Spectrum FM changes frequency on the Playa

Richard writes to tell me that: A new transmitter has been installed in Mojacar to counteract transmission blackspots caused in the municipality by the mountainous terrain. If you listen to Spectrum FM at home or work in this area please retune to the new Mojacar frequency of 96.4FM. If you mainly listen in your car then please make sure the RDS function is enabled. This will swap between whichever frequency is more powerful dependant on Continue reading Spectrum FM changes frequency on the Playa

Spectrum FM Costa Almeria have expanded their transmission area again to improve their coverage in Costa Almeria and Calida.Richard Shanley of Spectrum FM Almería told me that: The coastal frequency of 106.8FM has benefited from the latest state of the art antennas and transmitters giving coverage from Carboneras to just south of Cartegana. Albox residents will be able to enjoy a new radio station next week! The station has a new owner, Ray Peters, who moved from Majorca to Arboleas at the end of last year. Spectrum FM vs Smooth FM fight ends up causing an international incident!

90.8 FM is a radio frequency around Albox that both Smooth FM (HQ: Albox) and Spectrum FM (HQ: Mojacar) have been fighting over for the last couple of years. Smooth had a small transmitter ontop of their offices, and Spectrum had a large powerful transmitter ontop of the hills blaring out over the valley, so it was pretty much Spectrum’s fight. Until the weekend, when both suddenly went off the air. It seems that someone Continue reading Spectrum FM vs Smooth FM fight ends up causing an international incident!

Bye bye Choice FM

And so Choice FM has become fully part of the Bay Radio group, from the Costa Blanca area, with Bay Radio programming, as from 10am this morning. Bay has bought out the old Choice owners and will be using their frequencies to broadcast on. A pleasing mix of “grownup” chat by professionals and music is planned. And, as it ticks over, a full rebrand will come in, dropping the Choice FM brand in favour of Continue reading Bye bye Choice FM

Canary Islands start issuing new FM licenses

You may remember that the new Ley General de la Comunicación Audiovisual has created a new regulatory body to oversee TV and radio broadcasters, with the aim of closing down all pirate FM radio stations. The law was backed to the hilt by the Canary Coalition Party (who?); they seem to have expended an awful lot of political capital in getting this law through Congress, and they were the ones who drafted the segment about Continue reading Canary Islands start issuing new FM licenses

Jon Gaunt on Spectrum FM

Spectrum FM seem to be proud that they have a man called John Gaunt, who has something to do with the UK Sun newspaper, on air. (I’m not sure of the details). A number of people have asked me how he’s going down in the Levante. I’ve held a little, informal survey on how many people like this blithering idiot. 1 person liked him. (Bloke’s a nitwit with the intellectual curiosity of Paris Hilton’s lapdog Continue reading Jon Gaunt on Spectrum FM
