USA ready to take radioactive Palomares topsoil
The USA has agreed to take radioactive Palomares topsoil out of the province and transport it back to Nevada, to a storage facility just outside of Las Vegas. The US Energy Dept sent the Spanish Nuclear Commission a cleanup plan back in July which the Spanish are prepared to accept to finally put an end to the problem, according to a leaked report. In short, a US long range nuclear bomber with four nuclear bombs on board was refuelling over Almeria when it crashed with the plane supplying it with fuel, and the four bombs fell over Palomares, two on land and two in the sea. US ends Palomares nuclear cleanup payments
El Pais has discovered that the US government will not continue to pay for cleanup efforts or continuing blood tests for the 1,500 people who live in Palomares. The US government pays some 314,000€ a year to the Spanish government to control the effects of the nuclear spill in the village, caused after a long range US bomber equipped with nuclear bombs crashed there in ’66. CNE proposes raise in price of electric from between 2.8% to 10.4%
The quarterly revision of electric prices issued by the CNE (Comision Nacional del Energia, or National Energy Commission) has recommended raising electric prices across the board, from 2.8% all the way up to 10.4% (depending upon use of the electric, different prices are applied), after having approved raises of 5.6% in January and 3.3% in July.
