Border police start busy summer campaign

The busy summer campaign “Operación Paso del Estrecho” which controls the hundreds of thousands of people using Spain’s ports has had a busy start in Almería province. The national police had checked 68,971 people with some 15,000 vehicles departing from Almería port in the first four weeks of the campaign. By last week 11 of these people had been arrested on European arrest warrants, and a further 49 people detained for questioning by Spanish police. A massive National Police crackdown on fake companies carried out yesterday saw 740 people arrested and a further 1241 people charged with creating and operating fake companies. Across Almeria, 13 fake companies have been closed down and 90 people arrested.
