€50,000 compensation for hitting a goat on the motorway

A man has been awarded €50,000 compensation by a local court after he hit a mountain goat that had strayed onto the motorway near Almería city four years ago. José Manuel J. M. was driving his motorbike at a steady 90 kph when he went round a bend and found several wild mountain goats milling around. He bounced off one with the usual nasty results one can expect. Anyway, after four years in the courts, Continue reading €50,000 compensation for hitting a goat on the motorway

7 kph grace on speed traps under 100kph; 7% margin above

As from next month, all speed traps will be set to have a tolerance of 7kph if the speed is under 100kph; if over, it will be 7%. Example: If you’re in an 80kph zone, the speed trap will fire at 88kph and you get fined. Likewise, in a 50kph zone, it will fire at 58kph. If you’re on the motorway in a 100kph zone, you can do 107kph (100 + 7%). In a 120 Continue reading 7 kph grace on speed traps under 100kph; 7% margin above

Almería – Málaga A7 motorway will finally open next year

It’s been over 20 years in the making, but the Almería to Málaga A7 coastal motorway will finally be finished next year. It hasn’t been an easy motorway to build, the sharp cliffs and unstable terrain has made the motorway a slow and costly affair to build. The Castillo de Baños (Polopos) – Albuñol bit will open at the end of this month in a lavish ceremony: the 15 kilometre stretch has cost a whopping Continue reading Almería – Málaga A7 motorway will finally open next year

Junta asks EU to 280M to finish off Almería’s motorways

The Junta has said it will finish off all of the abandoned motorways in the province, if the EU stumps up 280 million euros to pay for it all. Well, that’s the essence of yesterday’s statement. The plan submitted to the EU is asking for Andalucia’s share of Presidents Juncker’s massive cash spend under the known “Plan Juncker”. The EU Prezzie, you will remember, has abandoned austerity and announced he’s spending hundreds of billions of Continue reading Junta asks EU to 280M to finish off Almería’s motorways

Almanzora motorway works to restart this month and be finished in a year

The Junta has announced that work on the Almanzora motorway will restart “in May”, although they didn’t give a date, and will finish by March 2015. Work on the motorway stopped in 2012 during la crisis and since then the motorway has been sitting, half built and mouldering, under the hot sun. 85 % of the motorway has been finished, with just 8,7 km to be done.

Almanzora motorway money goes to Jaén

The Junta de Andalucía had promised that works on the Almanzora motorway through Albox would restart by Easter. Well, as ideal newspaper points out today, we’re past Easter and still no sign of any workers. Nor has the Ministry responded to questions on timescales. However, a motorway in a similar situation, called the autovía del olivar in Jaén, on which works stopped two years ago, today saw the return of workers, after the EU stumped Continue reading Almanzora motorway money goes to Jaén

Still no date on when Almanzora motorworks will resume

Another snag has hit the abandoned Almanzora motorway – the company that’s supposed to be building it has basically gone under, so works can’t resume. That’s the explanation of the Junta for why works haven’t started, despite the fact that cash has been made available in the 2014 budget. Work on the Almanzora motorway was abandoned in 2011 when the Junta ran out of cash. They tried to do a civil-public partnership, but no-one was Continue reading Still no date on when Almanzora motorworks will resume
