50 people fired at Macael townhall can’t get the dole

50 people fired in a mass redundancy plan (ERE) implemented by Macael townhall (bankrupt, can’t pay salaries) have received notification from the Employment Office that they won’t get the dole. The reason is apparently because there is a dispute about whether the ERE is legal or not. A court has embargoed several plots of land owned by Macael townhall in favour of a construction company which has an outstanding bill of 2,4 million euros with the town. Macael mayor denounced for stealing street lights

The opposition PP party in the marble town of Macael have denounced the PSOE mayor in the courts for stealing “up to” 12 street lights. The denuncia says that a government grant was given to the town earlier this year in order to improve street lighting in a part of the town.
