A contact to build a roundabout on the los Gallardos road was issued today. An ovaloid roundabout will be built at the entrance to Huerta nueva, complete with pedestrian safety paths to allow people to safely cross. The contract is for €300,000. No news on when works will start.
Forgot to post this yesterday. The petrol station in Los Gallardos was attacked in the wee hours of Friday morning, hence the smashed plate glass. It seems two young lads made at the windows with a cheap sledgehammer. After the fifth or six pound on the glass, the head came flying off leaving them a bit nonplussed. All they managed to do was star the security glass, they never got in. They thus decided to Continue reading
Finally! The dangerous La Simona crossroads leading into Garrucha port from the by-pass is to become a roundabout. The idea was first mooted eight years ago but no agreement has ever been reached. Mainly because the powerful quarries and lorry guild scupper any attempt to improve road safety, as it would cost them more in fuel as they drive up and down that road exporting the province. Now the city council has agreed to proceed Continue reading
A row has erupted after people woke up this week in Los Gallardos to discover their land had been seized for a quarry without them being told. A company from the Pais Vasco called Minera de Órgiva has been issued prospecting rights over 240 ha in Los Gallardos and Antas. They’re searching for alabaster (used to make windows), serpentine (used in the steel industry) and marble. The Junta de Andalucia has issued prospecting rights to Continue reading
A new theatre is being built in Los Gallardos. Costing €180,000 the works are being underwritten by the townhall, and it’s the building work next to the entrance to Huerta Nueva. The photo would have been clearer, but a young gentleman of unmarried parents in a van behind me was disconcerted by the fact that I’d stopped at a Stop sign, and leant on his horn to encourage me to shift my ass out of Continue reading
The Department of Health (sanidad) has issued a unified declaration of potability for the water of Galasa across the Levante. It comes after an extensive period of government testing of water at 83 urban centres across Carboneras, Mojácar, Turre, Antas, Arboleas, Cuevas del Almanzora, Garrucha, Huércal-Overa, Los Gallardos, Pulpí, Zurgena & Bédar.
The Ave warehouse in los gallardos is again on fire. Great clouds of black smoke are billowing in the sky. That’s the second time this week. Somebody must have a grudge against a company. what is that company keeping in that warehouse?
A fire broke out yesterday at that big SACYR warehouse above Los Gallardos. There was a pile of rubbish and wood round the back, which caught fire, or was set alight. Kids, I suspect. Turre bomberos rushed up and put it out. The large flames were clearly visible from the motorway, and a crowd quickly gathered for the fun.
This vast building is just another abandoned relic from Spains past. Another notch on the coffin of its economic dream, another testimony to past folly. I’m told that it was built by a Catalan couple who had inherited the land from ancestors who passed away in Los Gallardos, although nobody seems to know them personally. Possibly he was an architect. Others say he was a builder. What does seem certain is that the promoter of Continue reading
