Almeria airport gets new summer routes

Almeria airport

It seems FITUR may be useful for something as Almeria Airport (code named LEI) has signed a series of new summer destinations at the trade fair. Mind you, it doesn’t alter my theory that FITUR is just one big jolly for the boys one iota. Jet2 and TUI have been studying these destinations since last year, they just use the Madrid tourism fair as the press launch destination. Any hoo…. UK airline Jet2.com plans to Continue reading Almeria airport gets new summer routes

Almeria airport schedules for 2016

Nothing exciting in the way of new flights for Almeria duringh 2016, unless you like flying to London (16 flights a week during summer) or Brussels (10 flights a week during summer). Thompson is launching a new charter flight this summer between London and Almeria – it’s the same one they announced last year but never got around to doing. Thomas Cook will be operating additional flights during the summer as well. Monarch will be Continue reading Almeria airport schedules for 2016

Jet2: no plans to fly to Almeria

Despite much excitement  last summer about Jet2 planning to fly to Almeria airport, including a leak from the county council about the plans, I’ve just been in touch with Jet2 who say “it’s not currently in our plans for 2016” to fly here. Obviously So that’s that rumour squashed. Back to Malaga airport it is! Jet2.com is the UK’s third largest tour operator by volume and also operates a fleet of 49 planes flying to Continue reading Jet2: no plans to fly to Almeria

Low passenger numbers have caused airlines to drop 11 routes from Almeria airport this month. We were supposed to have 29 routes across Europe this summer, but only 18 continue to function after airlines suddenly cancelled the rest for August. Five of the cancelled routes were low cost and charter flights to European cities: Birmingham, Belgrade, Helsinki, Rome, Oslo. The other six were all to other Spanish cities: Tenerife South, Bilbao, Santander, Santiago de Compostela, Continue reading 11 destinations including Birmingham abruptly dropped from Almeria airport

Manchester – Almeria routes announced by Monarch

UK airline Monarch has confirmed that they will be flying between Manchester and Almeria airport throughout this winter twice weekly. Flights will be on Monday, Thursday and Sundays until September, and on Thursdays and Sundays from then until November. From November until next March, flights will be on every Friday with additional flights on Mondays during the peak season only. See the winter route info here.

Thomas Cook, Monarch increase capacity to Almeria

Tour operator Thomas Cook has been forced to upgrade the aircraft it uses for the popular Manchester to Almeria route due to increased demand from passengers. An Airbus A330-200, which seats over 300 passengers and has a double aisle, was used on the 23rd of July as the standard 200 seater plane had insufficient capacity. Sources from Almeria airport said that it was probably the largest passenger plane that has ever landed there. Thomas Cook Continue reading Thomas Cook, Monarch increase capacity to Almeria

107 passengers stranded because Almeria Airport “closed for the night”

Almeria airport

Friday evenings Vueling flight from Barcelona to Almería arrived 20 minutes late due to bad weather. Passengers disembarked as normal, and the people waiting for the return flight (107 of them) duly filed out through security onto the tarmac, into the rain, to board the flight. Trouble was that the earliest the plane could be prepared to take off would have been 23.15, and the airport closes at 22:45. Meaning everyone had to traipse back Continue reading 107 passengers stranded because Almeria Airport “closed for the night”
