Junta’s anti-obesity law comes closer

The Junta has published a draft version of a new anti-obesity law, a first for Spain. It goes after the 18.7% of Andaluzes who are classified as fatties and makes them run naked through the locker room whilst the jocks flick at them with wet towels. Or something like that, I haven’t read it very closely. The issue is worse amongst the youth, with 22.5% of kids overweight in the region. Some highlights of the Continue reading Junta’s anti-obesity law comes closer

Junta denies robberies at historic sites

The Junta de Andalucia has denied that El Argar, a bronze age village outside Antas from an ancient civilisation, is being “routinely despoiled” by treasure hunters. Furthermore, the lack of full protection and cultural activities at the areas is the fault of the local authorities, according to a statement from the minister for culture. MP Carmen Crespo (PP) made the accusation recently during a debate on historic protection in the regional parliament. Minister Alfredo Valdivia Continue reading Junta denies robberies at historic sites

Small farmacias to get government assistance to stay open

Small farmacias (pharmacies) that are struggling to stay afloat have been thrown a lifeline by the Junta de Andalucia. Farmacias which had a turnover of under €200,000 last year will be able to apply for a series of grants and tax relief schemes to help them keep their doors open. The Junta says that the local farmacia is a vital institution in small villages and an important part of the national health scheme. I can’t Continue reading Small farmacias to get government assistance to stay open

Junta tries to legalise its own heliport … which first opened 18 years ago

The Junta is trying to legalise an emergency services heliport located in the mountains behind Serón (above Almeria) which has, it appears, been operating for 18 years without a license. (What follows is also an example of why the Spanish government uses extra large business cards). The heliport opened in 1995 to much fanfare and is used as a base for fire fighting helicopters and mountain rescue. However, nobody bothered to get a licence for Continue reading Junta tries to legalise its own heliport … which first opened 18 years ago

Andalucia’s government signs friendship deal with Cuba, Venezuela

Well, it´s not as if they´ve got anything more important to worry about closer to home. The Junta de Andalucia, reports El Mundo, is signing a “friendship deal” with Cuba and Venezuela (basically, the Commie part of South America), and is angling towards entry of the Bolivian Alliance of the People of Our Americas (ALBA), a left wing free trade association promoted by Cuba and Venezuela which aims to (from their mission statement) “provide a Continue reading Andalucia’s government signs friendship deal with Cuba, Venezuela

Junta de Andalucia spends 230,000€ a day on “international cooperation”

Or around 500 million euros since 2007, according to the PP. 71 million euros this year alone. The funds go to “international projects” designed to “enhance and project Andalucia’s image abroad… whilst aiding in international cooperation and development”, and are spent by a shady sounding organisation called the Agencia Andaluza de Cooperación Internacional para el Desarrollo. (Andalucian Agency of International Cooperation for Development). Hmm.Wonder what a close study of their accounts would reveal… Amongst other Continue reading Junta de Andalucia spends 230,000€ a day on “international cooperation”
