A large sea turtle has been found dead on Vera beach, just outside Garrucha. It was some 70 cm across. No news on how it died, but it probably ate too many plastic bags (they go after them in the water thinking they’re jellyfish). Boat explodes in Garrucha harbour

A woman has been seriously injured after her seven meter cabin cruiser exploded in Garrucha harbour today at midday. According to the emergency services, the woman had boarded her boat called “Chess” along with her husband and children, and started to warm up the engine. At 12:50 the engine suddenly exploded, causing severe burns to the woman on board who was nearby. Vicious gang of thieves who preyed on elderly expats taken down in Garrucha

A “vicious” gang of thieves who specialised in rapid and violent burglaries in local homes belonging mainly to elderly expats have been arrested by the Guardia Civil in Garrucha today. Material used in the robberies, as well as stolen goods and several luxury vehicles have been seized. The gang was made up of four people, 2 Serbians a Kosovan and a Romanian. Garrucha declares bankruptcy

Garrucha has declared bankruptcy after their budget comptroller realised the town only has enough cash in the bank to pay salaries until the end of this month. Sergio Prados, the comptroller, signed an order on the 3rd of June ordering the suspension of payments, the first step towards technical bankruptcy, according to local e-paper la gazeta de Almería. There was a massive tailback on the Garrucha bypass yesterday after the yeso lorries tried to use their usual entrance to the port only to find that Vera townhall had cut the road off without bothering to tell anyone. 1,500 homes approved for Garrucha (plus Lidl and another shopping centre)

11 armed youths arrested for spate of break-ins across Levante

The Guardia Civil have swooped on 11 young men and arrested them for a spate of break ins and robberies across the Garrucha, Vera and Turre regions. The gangs would break into homes, warehouses and cortijos to strip them bare, even down to the copper wiring in the walls.
