Heavy storms last night in the north of the province have resulted in several rivers starting to flow at this unusual time of year, and a flash flood. The river Nacimiento was full as it flowed past the villages of Abla and Fiñana this morning, after rain in the Sierra de los Filabres. 12 flash flood sensors – advanced automated met metering stations – will be installed in flash flood prone rivers across the Levante and the North of the province to give advance warning of events like the Vera Playa flood. The system is being installed and maintained by the Confederación Hidrográfica del Segura (CHS), the government agency in charge of water supplies for the rio Segura water area (Murcia). Yesterdays rain caused a flash flood which trapped 34 workers on a film set for Exodus in Tabernas desert, near Fort Bravo. Seems they had to flee the riverbed and drive up a bank, where upon they promptly got stuck in seven or eight different vehicles. Fire vehicles and Guardia Civil pulled them free through the stream. No injuries.
