Fines, a tiny marble quarrying village up in the mountains, has built the worlds largest marble statue hewed from a single block of marble. The statue, called “Liberty” (Libertad) is dedicated to all female victims of domestic violence and is dedicated to Rosa Galera, a local woman beaten to death by her husband in the village three years ago. At long last the first bit of the E-15 to Baza motorway is to open. The stretch between Albox & Fines will be opened to the public this Monday 16th. 8km long, costing €21,6million euros, and as always the opening was delayed in order to juggle around politicians diaries – seem President-For-Life Chaves couldn’t make it any earlier.
