The 2011 Loteria Nacional ad

Here’s the wonderful 2011 advert from the Loteria Nacional urging us to go out and buy a decimo for Christmas. A wonderful blend of Darwinian Christmas scenes mixed in with a bit of Harry Potter magic, it’s got bugger all to do with Spanish nativity traditions, but it’s still the best ad I’ve seen all year. The kids, of course, are supposed to be the ones from San Ildelfonso, Spain’s oldest orphanage, the kids who Continue reading The 2011 Loteria Nacional ad

El Gordo in La Voz

Just discovered the 23rd Dec edition of La Voz, the day after the El Gordo lottery draw. Wow. Apart from the special cover, which ran every winning number, if you open the actual paper, you don’t get to any real news until page….. 30. That’s right, 29 pages of light news about happy people waving lottery tickets. None of them, I noticed as I tossed my tickets in the bin, from Almería. Still, look on Continue reading El Gordo in La Voz

8 lucky lottery players in María got €2,7million

The main prize in yesterdays “El Gordo” went to a small village in Jaen called Santiago de la Espada. The winning number was 32.365 and was mainly sold in a small mesón (apparantly the only pub in the village) and each decimo won €300,000. 8 lucky people from the little village of María in Almería brought their lottery tickets from this village, and so brought €2,700,000 back. Why did they buy their lottery tickets there? Continue reading 8 lucky lottery players in María got €2,7million

Garrucha gets a Gordo prize!

A fifth prize in the Spains national Christmas Extravaganza Lottery (El Gordo) went to a ticket number sold in Garrucha. Juan José Haro, owner of ticket office “La Gata Rafi” (just off the high street I believe, about two thirds of the way down), sold 45 tickets (divided in turn into 10 decimos each, so that’s 450) which won 2,250,000€, or€5000 a ticket. Local resident Miguel Angel Vilar told Ideal.es (translated) that the money would Continue reading Garrucha gets a Gordo prize!
