Inaccessible hospital opens in Huelva (and they can’t afford to equip new Vera medical wing)

The Junta de Andalucía has surpassed itself this time – they’ve just opened a 21 million euro hospital that you can’t reach, because nobody has built the road there yet. Even better, it’s in the town of Lepe, whose inhabitants have a reputation for being the backwards red-neck hicks of Spain. *Here’s a Lepe joke: a man from Lepe left to go to Seville, but he came across a large sign saying HUELVA, so he Continue reading Inaccessible hospital opens in Huelva (and they can’t afford to equip new Vera medical wing)

Abortions fall to their lowest level in ten years

By October of this year 907 abortions had been carried out across the province, with the health service doubting this figure will reach 1,500 by year’s end. This represents a significant drop from its peak in 2009, when 2.300 abortions were carried out. Across Spain, over 90.000 abortions are expected to be carried out this year, of which 18.000 will be in Andalusia. According to the gynaecologist Dr. Francisca Garcia, the reason behind the fall Continue reading Abortions fall to their lowest level in ten years

Our hospitals amongst the worst

None of the hospitals in the province have made it into the top 100 according to a new authoritative national ranking. The Monitor de Reputación Sanitaria, drawn up by KPMG, ranked every hospital in the country. Mojacar health cutback chaos argument

Townhall and health ministry at loggerheads over complaints. Just hours after Mojacar townhall denounced a situation of “chaos” at the beachside medical centre, the health ministry hit back saying the claims “are nonsense”. “The Mojacar health clinic is in a situation of chaos, as there are insufficient staff to cover the needs of both A&E and normal primary care. The number of complaints at the front desk increase daily” said a vitriolic statement from councillor Continue reading Mojacar health cutback chaos argument

Information on health care requirements for UK residents during their temporary stay in Andalusia

The Junta de Andalucia and the British Council have issued a guide to British residents who are traipsing around Andalucia this year and fall down a crevasse, or foolishly eat the Russian salad at the beach bar, or otherwise fall into the hands of a doctor. It was obviously written by a non-native English speaker, but the information is none the less valid. People holding the European Health Insurance Card in force are entitled to Continue reading Information on health care requirements for UK residents during their temporary stay in Andalusia
