Mojacar illegal payments case dropped by Judge

The Judge investigating complaints of abuse of power in Mojacar council regarding the attempt to pay an irregular Christmas bonus to town workers in 2014 has decided to drop the case. The case was launched by opposition councillors, especially Jessica Simpson from Somos Mojacar, after Mayor Rosa Maria decided to pay all town workers a Christmas bonus averaging one months wages, despite having received a report from her legal advisers warning such a payment was Continue reading Mojacar illegal payments case dropped by Judge

Chap tries to rob his local bank but quickly gets recognised…. then said it was “all a joke”

A 55 year old Frenchman living in San José, Nijar decided to rob a bank. Trouble was, he chose the bank where he has an account. So when he marched in with a sawn off shotgun and shouted money in the sack, or whatever the protocol is in these situations, the cashier gave him an incredulous look before asking “is that you, P.S.?” To which P.S. admitted that yes, it was, lowered his shotgun, claimed Continue reading Chap tries to rob his local bank but quickly gets recognised…. then said it was “all a joke”

Albox refuses to consign compensation to illegal house owners and appeals

Albox townhall has refused to consign 3.104.185€ to the local courts to cover its “civil responsibility” for permitting the construction and sale of 98 illegal homes to British citizens, and has voted unanimously to appeal the sentence. Read my explanation of the court order over here. Rogelio Mena, the PSOE Mayor, says that neither he nor his team were responsible for allowing the constructions (he blames the previous PP mayor from the other party) and Continue reading Albox refuses to consign compensation to illegal house owners and appeals

Cordoba taxi reform turns nasty

The city of Córdoba is reforming its taxi bylaws, after a campaign by consumer union FACUA, which says they’re a decade out of date. Trouble is, the new bylaws aren’t much better, and FACUA turned nasty over the issue. One contentious little new bylaw rules that if you ring for a taxi via a service, the meter drops from the second the driver gets the order, and not from when the client actually climbs aboard.

8 Egyptian druggies released as Spain no longer has universal laws

Spain used to have a strange law which allowed it’s judges to pursue evil and wrong where-ever it might occur in the world. It was called the doctrine of universal justice, and was a good way for an up and coming young Judge to make a name. Baltasar Garzón used to it great effect a few times. This caused some trouble. Most recently, when a Spanish court issued an arrest warrant for the ex-Chinese Prime Continue reading 8 Egyptian druggies released as Spain no longer has universal laws

Cheeky chappie stopped at 213KPH on the motorway by Vera

A cheeky Catalan chappie was stopped by the rozzers doing 213 KPH on the toll road outside Vera yesterday. He was flooring his BMW X5, but sadly hadn’t counted on a mobile speed trap that nabbed him as he went past. He’s up in front of the local beak next week for exceeding the speed limit by 75% (it’s 120KPH just there) and is looking at a very hefty fine and more points than you Continue reading Cheeky chappie stopped at 213KPH on the motorway by Vera

Almeria divorce court gets round to hearing divorce 13 YEARS after request was submitted

The Almeria divorce court has finally got around to replying to a request for a divorce lodged back in 2001 by a local couple. The court wrote to the couple asking them if they wished to continue with the process, as so much time had gone past. As it happens, the couple had actually managed to sort things out, and so wrote back to say thanks but no thanks, before sending the letter off to Continue reading Almeria divorce court gets round to hearing divorce 13 YEARS after request was submitted

Can’t pay your rent? 10 days to get out under new law

A new law modifying the desahucio express -express evictions- means that defaulting tenants who don’t reply to judicial orders to pay have just 10 days to clear off before the cops come round and throw you out. In 2009, a law, nicknamed the desahucio express came into force which aimed to give landlords greater security if their tenants defaulted on the rent. From being almost impossible to throw out tenants, landlords saw judicial processes speed Continue reading Can’t pay your rent? 10 days to get out under new law

Officially a “Troublemaker” in the eyes of the law

For those of you wondering about how the court case (here) appeal against the charged of Civil disobedience, invasion and illegal occupation of a public edifice (to wit, the Turre Town Hall), refusing to obey the commands of an office of duly constituted civil authority, blocking the free passage of vehicles on a public road, ended – Judge Tomás Cobo upheld the complaint and kept the fine. So that’s €500 down the drain. Thank you Continue reading Officially a “Troublemaker” in the eyes of the law
