Boat explodes in Garrucha harbour

A woman has been seriously injured after her seven meter cabin cruiser exploded in Garrucha harbour today at midday. According to the emergency services, the woman had boarded her boat called “Chess” along with her husband and children, and started to warm up the engine. Shellfish shoots up as catches sink – ouch, a prawn is expensive

The latest data from the Andalusian fisheries ministry show a hefty increase of up to 40% in the price of local shellfish and blue fish as the amount of kilos caught drop by 35% across the province. Local dolphins learn to attack fishing nets – causing “massive loss” to fishing boats

Fisherman attacked by shark off Almería

That should read “shark attacked by fisherman” as it bit him when he was trying to drag it onboard his fishing trawler. The man was on board the 17m long Nuevo Mirandilla fishing boat when he dragged aboard a tintoria, a blue shark. Whilst struggling with the 2metre long fish, it bit him hard on the hand, almost severing the limb. 1927 steamboat wreck uncovered by storms

A steamboat which sank in a storm in 1927 has re-emerged on a beach in Northern Spain, on the infamous costa do morte, coast of death. The Portuguese flagged steamboat freighter “Silva Gouveia” sank in storm 87 years ago whilst carrying a load of sugar. The 60m long boat was built in 1906 in Great Britain, according to El Mundo.

New Captain and pilot licence law for 2014

Captain and pilot licenses for recreation vessels in Spain will change as from 2014. The whole scheme is coming into the 21st century!
