Vitoria enacts “savage” animal protection laws

The Basque city of Vitoria has voted in “savage” animal protection laws, which the city council claims are the strongest in Spain. However, donkey races and bullfighting are still permitted. El Ejido municipal pound says fewer animals on street

The municipal animal pound of El Ejido has said that there appear to be fewer stray animals on the streets of El Ejido. To date, it seems they have only caught 235 stray animals; in 2009, they caught 883. The pound said that they weren’t receiving as many calls as last year regarding stray animals, and said that this was encouraging.
