The El Ejido chiringuito experiment – yep, it was a failure (as we all said all along)

A few years ago, when Spain was rolling in money, politicians were getting rich and builders even richer off the wealth of the happy foresteros flocking in from the UK and Germany, and it seemed as if the good times would never end, Spain decided to try out a law that had been on the statue books for two decades but never implemented, the Ley de Costas. This basically meant that the only reason people Continue reading The El Ejido chiringuito experiment – yep, it was a failure (as we all said all along)

Company that bought El Ejido recycling denounces old owners for massive theft

Morgan Aqua, a large recycling company that a year ago purchased from Hermanos Lirola the El Ejido recycling plant (yes, the one that’s been on fire for months), has denounced Hermanos Lirola for “massive frauds and tax theft totalling over 13 million euros”. Morgan Aqua purchased four companies from a company owned by the three Lirola brothers (Ejido Medio Ambiente, Contendedores Lirola, Contenedores Ejido and Hermanos Lirola, all SL’s working together and owned by the Continue reading Company that bought El Ejido recycling denounces old owners for massive theft

Rich Women (from Almeria)

Tonight sees the start of LaSexta’s latest TV glimpse behind the scenes of a life we will never live: mujeres ricas – rich women. The series, billed as a “Spanish style true life Sex in the city fly on the wall documentary” (and that’s a direct translation!) follows six rich, successful self made business women around their social lives. Rumour has it that when the series said someone from Almería was taking part, everybody thought Continue reading Rich Women (from Almeria)

Almerimar is popular!

Ever since I trailblazed the path, Almerimar has come out of obscurity and is becoming ever more popular with the free newspapers – despite the fact that nobody advertises there! So now a little bird tells me that the Sol Times is going to start distributing there. Crikey! Nail extensions have never been so popular! Although I still regret unleashing Chris Marshall onto an unsuspecting world…… ah hem.

The Almerimar “make as much noise as you can” party….

Rumour -no idea if it’s true- reaches me of an (English) bar in Almerimar who has suffered for the last few years by having a rich and important man’s holiday apartment upstairs. When Mr Big is away, no problem, when Mr Big is on holiday, at the first sound of trouble lots of Local Police would show up and shut them down. “Mr Big” was Mr Enciso, the recently jailed mayor of El Ejido. It Continue reading The Almerimar “make as much noise as you can” party….

D-bar, Almerimar

After a recent meeting with Chris (no drink involved this time!) we adjourned to D-bar, which is his local, almost at the foot of Almerimar. Almerimar is a nice place. Not too touristy, small enough to walk everywhere and has a range of different types of bars. I was going to steal some photos off Chris’s site but he hadn’t uploaded any good ones, so here’s one of the rather large English breakfast Chris insisted Continue reading D-bar, Almerimar

Crikey, I won something!

I was lucky enough to win something that wasn’t the premium bonds – Chris Marshall’s “comment of the month” competition! Now Chris is not just an all round nice chap, he’s also the second (or eighth, depends how you work it out!) most popular chap in Spain according to Twitter.com. He moved to Almerimar quite a few years ago now with his all round decent egg wife Sands (who spends her spare time neutering cats). Continue reading Crikey, I won something!
