Junta gets the cash to finish the Almanzora motorway

Despite Andalusia having gone bankrupt, the Junta continues to promise large scale infrastructure projects. And to finance these grandiose scheme, someone in power had a Bad Idea. Namely, a private-public partnership scheme in which the private sector finances the work, in exchange for the right to milk it royally over the next xx years. In the case of the Almanzora motorway, the Junta has -somehow, backs of sofas come to mind- scrounged 160 million euros, Continue reading Junta gets the cash to finish the Almanzora motorway

How will Junta make illegal homeowners legalise their homes? The Junta explains

An interview in today’s La Voz from Josefina Cruz, the Andalucian Minister for Public Works & Housing, makes for fascinating reading. Of course, the interviewer couldn’t be bothered to ask the right questions, but if you read between the lines it’s obvious that the process is going to be a large and expensive one. She has raised the subject of the Guild of Arquitects – I’m willing to bet that this means that all homeowners Continue reading How will Junta make illegal homeowners legalise their homes? Illegal homes draft law to be published this summer

The chappie in charge of the Housing and Planning in Almeria for the Junta, José Manuel Ortiz Bono, let slip during a Cadena Ser radio interview yesterday that a draft law legalising illegal homes in the province is likely to be published in a consultation form this summer. José said that the law will expect the “the builders or purchasers” who must pay the costs of urbanising their plots of land, and added that “there Continue reading Illegal homes draft law to be published this summer

Work restarts on Albox motorway

Hey, they found some more money! Work has restarted, after a hiatus of two months, on the Albox – La Cucador stretch of the Almanzora motorway, after the Junta found some cash to pay the contractors. The contractors, not being in the mood to work for free, had stopped work two months ago after the Junta missed a payment deadline. Not for the first time, either – check the archives of this blog for the Continue reading Work restarts on Albox motorway

More on the Almanzora Aerodrome

I spoke yesterday about the Almanzora Aerodrome, which has been added to the “wishlist” of features for the Almanzora in the new POTAL (see The Almanzora wants an airport). Anyway, I discovered today that there is a lobby group for this aerodrome, in the shape of the Asociacion de Empresarios de Albox (AEPA), and it’s spokesman Fernando López (well known as the owner of local builders New Villas amongst other things), together with the Mayor Continue reading More on the Almanzora Aerodrome

The Almanzora wants an airport

Say what you like about the mayors of the Almanzora region, they don’t let much get them down. Fresh from their fights over the 10,000 (15,000? 20,000?) “alegal” homes in their towns, they have now got together and are demanding an aerodrome for the valley. The tecnicos developing the POTAL (Plan de Ordenación Territorial del Almanzora, a regional development and urban planning map) have agreed to add the request to the overall “wishlist” of Nice Continue reading The Almanzora wants an airport

Large outdoor shopping centre in Arboleas to open soon

Pedro Maria Soto, the owner of “Almería Estates” (lovely chap and I’m sure his involvement in the Operación Costurero will eventually be resolved) has confirmed that his large new outdoor shopping centre will be open within three month (mid April). “Recinto Ferial Los Llanos”, which cost 200,000€ to develop, is, according to Pedro, an outdoor “rastrillo” (basically, an outdoor market) with some 200 stands across 6,000 square meters of land, that will be leased to Continue reading Large outdoor shopping centre in Arboleas to open soon

Brits will decide who is new mayor in many towns

ElAlmeria, the local newspaper, has an interesting article about how in many towns of the Almanzora, the British vote will be decisive in deciding who becomes the new mayor in the local elections, now just 8 months away. In Arboleas, 64% of the vote belongs to expats (the highest of any town in Spain, I’m told); in Zurgena 38%, in Partaloa 59%. Many other villages are in the same situation. The paper warns that the Continue reading Brits will decide who is new mayor in many towns
