Almanzora motorway works stop again due to lack of cash

The Junta has admitted that due to a failure to pay the last installment of 1,5 million euros to the construction company, work on the Almanzora motorway has stopped. Aldea-BSK, the construction consortium, has refused to comment, but workers failed to turn up from late last week. It seems that the blockage is over the payment for the concrete beams they use as part of the foundations. They are made in Antequera, and the company Continue reading Almanzora motorway works stop again due to lack of cash

23,020,000,000€: Junta publishes 2012 budget figures (but no provincial breakdown!)

The Junta de Andalucia has confirmed that the 2012 budget for the region will be 23,020 million euros, about 3,5% higher than last year, and the first time in 2 years that the budget has increased. Well, it’s an election year, and they have votes to purchase. The Junta has -well, lets say annoyed– many by refusing to publish a province by province breakdown of how much money each province will expect to receive. This Continue reading 23,020,000,000€: Junta publishes 2012 budget figures (but no provincial breakdown!)

Junta gets the cash to finish the Almanzora motorway

Despite Andalusia having gone bankrupt, the Junta continues to promise large scale infrastructure projects. And to finance these grandiose scheme, someone in power had a Bad Idea. Namely, a private-public partnership scheme in which the private sector finances the work, in exchange for the right to milk it royally over the next xx years. In the case of the Almanzora motorway, the Junta has -somehow, backs of sofas come to mind- scrounged 160 million euros, Continue reading Junta gets the cash to finish the Almanzora motorway

The Albox – El Cucador stretch of motorway will open by the end of August, according to the Junta. The new opening date came after the contractors restarted work on the motorway after a two month hiatus. The Junta stumped up the rest of the 64,6 million euro cost of the six km and the contractors went back to work. Work on the Albox bypass has also recommenced and is expected to be finished “with Continue reading

Work restarts on Albox motorway

Hey, they found some more money! Work has restarted, after a hiatus of two months, on the Albox – La Cucador stretch of the Almanzora motorway, after the Junta found some cash to pay the contractors. The contractors, not being in the mood to work for free, had stopped work two months ago after the Junta missed a payment deadline. Not for the first time, either – check the archives of this blog for the Continue reading Work restarts on Albox motorway

Albox motorway works stop AGAIN due to lack of cash

Local paper Ideal says that the reason work has again stopped on the Albox motorway is because the Junta has a cash flow problem and is “revising” payment dates. (story in Spanish) 7,9 kim of the motorway, between Albox and Fines, are open, and the rest of the motorway, which will one day link Huercal Overa with Baza, is still under construction. The chap who signs the cheques for road building at the Junta, Pedro Continue reading Albox motorway works stop AGAIN due to lack of cash

Albox motorway NOT stopped, insists Junta (Garrucha’s has)

A group of sub-contractors came out on Wednesday and said that there were owed a lot of money by companies building the Almanzora motorway, but that they couldn’t be paid because the Junta had, again, stopped the works on some of the stretches, at least until it finds some more petty cash. The sub-contractors said that they were having to lay off workers as a result of not being paid invoices on time, as the Continue reading Albox motorway NOT stopped, insists Junta (Garrucha’s has)

Bit of the Almanzora motorway to open at end of the month

I’m told that the Albox-Cucador stretch of the Almanzora motorway has been finished, is being painted, and is expected to open to traffic next week/ first week of December. The rest of the motorway will be contracted out by the end of 2011, the Junta has promised, albeit via this mad private/public shared investment scheme, where companies pay to build a motorway and “gift it” to the state in exchange for 40 or 50 years Continue reading Bit of the Almanzora motorway to open at end of the month

State investment drops by 75% in province

After having spent a delightful 20 minutes reading the National Archives UFO files (and buying Dr Clarks book, I hope it’s good) I came across this undereported gem of a report from Cajamar, which estimates that state infrastructure projects in the province have dropped by 75% so far this year. The report has been snapped up by Miguel Uribe, head of the Almeria Business Association Asempal. Uribe has thrown the party line aside, and is Continue reading State investment drops by 75% in province
