Abortions fall to their lowest level in ten years

By October of this year 907 abortions had been carried out across the province, with the health service doubting this figure will reach 1,500 by year’s end. This represents a significant drop from its peak in 2009, when 2.300 abortions were carried out. Across Spain, over 90.000 abortions are expected to be carried out this year, of which 18.000 will be in Andalusia. According to the gynaecologist Dr. Francisca Garcia, the reason behind the fall Continue reading Abortions fall to their lowest level in ten years

Vultures circle justice minister after his abortion law fiasco

The leader of the PSOE has joined the general cat calling against justice minister Gallardón and demanded his resignation / firing, saying that Spain has lost confidence in him, and that the minister has lost the support of his colleagues. As the main proponent and backer and writer of the new law, as well as the unofficial leader of Continue reading Vultures circle justice minister after his abortion law fiasco

Spain drops abortion reform law

PM Rajoy’s office has admitted that due to lack of internal consensus it’s unlikely to be passed in this legislature and can be considered shelved. It’s a humiliating blow to the extreme conservative wing of the PP, under Justice Minister Alberto Gallardon (he used to be Mayor of Madrid), but Spain has united in defence of women’s Continue reading Spain drops abortion reform law

Abortion worse than the Spanish Civil War reckons the Church

Abortion has caused more pain, suffering and death in Spain than the Civil War, claimed the Bishop of Alcalá de Henares yesterday. Juan Antonio Reig Pla said it was a silent holocaust, and that all political parties and people of faith must join together to ensure abortion is banned. “Liberty of Women cannot be corrupted by defending the Right to Decide” he proclaimed. Nobody is quite sure what he’s on about. See if you can Continue reading Abortion worse than the Spanish Civil War reckons the Church

Womens rights go backwards as Spain bans abortion

Spain has decided to ban abortions, unless two doctors recommend it. The new law will basically roll the clock back to the pre-1985, when Spain first permitted abortion. Currently, women have the right to abort on their own decision up to 14 weeks, or 22 weeks if doctors detect an abnormality in the foetus, or if the mother’s mental state or physical health is endangered. Under this new law, abortion is not permitted unless two Continue reading Womens rights go backwards as Spain bans abortion

In Storage warehouse emptied

It appears, to judge from the irate posters over on arboleas.co.uk (link) that someone with sticky fingers and a large van emptied the InStorage warehouse in the Almanzora valley. As the owner of the business appears to have, ahem, “returned to the UK for personal reasons”, rumours go from the nave owner recouping his unpaid rent, to the owner deciding he needed a nestegg back in the UK, to someone spotting that all these lovely Continue reading In Storage warehouse emptied
