Yup, it’s a recession all right

Spain is officially in a recession after the latest economic data shows that the economy contracted 0.4% last quarter, the second quarter in a row. Which is the official definition of a recession. And the government is expecting a further contraction of 0.5% for this quarter. All this, ontop of the unemployment – now 24% of the active population – after another 290,000 people lost their jobs in the first three months of the year. AFP: Spain’s economy ‘to worsen in first quarter’

Spain warned Thursday its jobs-starved economy will shrink at an even faster rate in the first quarter of 2012, plunging the country back into recession. Turre fiesta 2012

A number of people have asked me when the 2012 Turre fiesta is. So I went and looked it up. The Saint’s day is the 4th Oct which is Thursday, so the festivities, such as they will be in this year of austerity, will run until Sunday, as both Thursday4 th  and Friday 5th are holidays in the village this year.
