The new Ley Electoral governing the right to vote in municipal elections, and the procedures within, is now law, with just a few months before the May 2011 elections. Important changes? The usual pre-election purge hits Mojácar

Rosmari, the leader of Mojácar, has had a blowout with her political allies in Mojacar and fired Carlos Cervantes (bearded fellow, leftwing leader of the IU and similar, used to be mayor until he was cut down) and Angel Medina (leader of Cuidadanos Europeos, never been mayor but would like to), both (now ex-) senior councillors and coalition allies in her townhall. Brits will decide who is new mayor in many towns

ElAlmeria, the local newspaper, has an interesting article about how in many towns of the Almanzora, the British vote will be decisive in deciding who becomes the new mayor in the local elections, now just 8 months away. In Arboleas, 64% of the vote belongs to expats (the highest of any town in Spain, I’m told); in Zurgena 38%, in Partaloa 59%. Many other villages are in the same situation. AUAN call expats to voting booth for 2011
