Local boy is almost windsurf world champ

Local boy Víctor Fernández from Almerimar in El Ejido has come second in the Pozo Izquierdo windsurfing championships in Gran Canaria, widely considered be the “world cup” of windsurfing. It’s the ninth time in a row he’s been in the finals of this prestigious championship. He was just pipped to the winners post by Philip Köster after a grueling 90 minutes of aquatic acrobatics. Köster’s push loop forward received maximum points from the judges, just beating Víctor, who admitted to the press afterwards that he was at the very limit of his endurance by the end of the “exhausting yet exhilarating” competition.
