Border police start busy summer campaign

The busy summer campaign “Operación Paso del Estrecho” which controls the hundreds of thousands of people using Spain’s ports has had a busy start in Almería province. The national police had checked 68,971 people with some 15,000 vehicles departing from Almería port in the first four weeks of the campaign. By last week 11 of these people had been arrested on European arrest warrants, and a further 49 people detained for questioning by Spanish police. A further 136 non Europeans with expired residency permits have been stopped and deported. Across Andalucia, 452,494 passengers and 104,252 vehicles have embarked at ports with destinations to North Africa.
