Two animals died in horrible circumstances due to the negligence of their owners in the hot weather.
A police patrol spotted a dying dog in the back of a locked car yesterday and smashed the windows of the vehicle to get him out.
However, 14 month old Fidji and was too far gone and despite help from a local vets, the animal died of dehydration and internal organ failure.
Its owners are two French tourists who locked the animal in their car whilst they went shopping at a nearby mall in the Basque country.
And in Alcalá de Guadaira, Seville, a galgo who was locked on a roof threw himself into the street below to try to escape the blistering hot tiles as the town baked in 45º heat last Sunday. Local residents called the police after they saw the dog crying on the roof, but the Local Police were unable to gain access to the building and the dog eventually threw himself off the second storey roof to escape the hot tiles. He died instantly. Police later investigated rooftop terrace and said that although the animal had access to shade and water, he had managed to climb onto a higher section of terrace from where he couldn’t get back down. They have filed charges in the local court to see if a criminal action of animal neglect has taken place.
