3 sea turtles have been found dead on the same day across Almería’s beaches.
One large turtle, 45cm across, with a cracked shell was found in Mojácar; another, 40cm across, was found in Almerimar and a third, 60cm across, washed up in Cabo de Gata natural park.
Experts from Equinac, the sea life people, are unsure why the three turtles died but say the fact they were all found on the same day was a coincidence. Samples have been sent off to a lab for analysis, but they don’t think the deaths were caused by plastic bags.
Caretta caretta as they’re known are a species on the verge of extinction, mainly due to the fact they gulp down plastic bags and then suffocate.
The turtles come after last weeks finding of a dead whale in Mojácar and two dead dolphins.
