Almería is currently the most geologically active part of the Peninsula, with dozens of mini earthquakes shaking the province over the last few weeks – eight in the last 24 hours alone.
Most of the earthquakes are happening under the Alboran sea, off the coast of Almería city. The strongest one so far has been a 4,1 on the Richter scale earthquake which happened yesterday, but nobody felt it. The only one that has been felt in the last week is a 2,9 earthquake near El Ejido which scared a few people but caused no damage.
The National Geological Institute which tracks such things on their website reassures us that many little earthquakes means there won’t be a big one, and that so far only about four earthquakes in the last month have been felt by anyone.
