Anyone in Almeria city this weekend with some time to kill should pop by the port, where the Spanish Navy patrol boat Vencedora will be hosting two open days to the public.
Saturday it will be open to the public from 16.00 to 18.00 hours and Sunday from 10 to 13 and 16 to 18. Most of the crew will be off enjoying the fleshpots of Almería over the weekend.
The patrol boat was launched as a corvette from Ferrol shipyards in 1982 and has been based at Cartagena ever since. In 2004 it was reformed into a patrol boat, with designation P-79 Vencedora.
It has seen active service in anti-piracy controls off Somalia as part of an international task force, and currently serves with the NATO anti-terrorism operations in the Med.
