The townhall of Almería recently allowed the installation of a speed trap in El Alquilan, on the main avenue there, at the same time dropping the speed limit there to just 30kph.
So this cunning little trap is issuing, according to opposition councillor Deborah Serón, over 100 fines a month, at between 400 and 600 a pop.
50% discount if you pay within the limit and don’t make a fuss…
€20,000 grand a month should make local drivers think about road safety said a triumphant Deborah.
But Deborah raises an interesting point – she wants the money from these speed traps to be ploughed back into the local economy, making local roads safer, rather than going into the national road safety budget.
