According to a survey by the influential CIS organisation, 59,6% of Catalans want outright independence from Spain.
But the survey also shows that people are more outraged about the denial of their basic democratic rights: 87.3% of the population would accept the result of a referendum, the same survey shows, and only 9.3% would continue to fight after a legal and fair referendum.
The survey was commissioned by the Generalitat and asked 1,600 Catalans, via a telephone survey, their opinion on a referendum. A breakdown of the survey is available here.
