A group of organ traffickers have been arrested by the National Police after a sting operation. An immigrant rights group denounced that some of the people they were caring for had been approached by people offering to buy their organs.
The sting came after the National Police were tipped off that a rich Libyan man needing a liver transplant and had travelled to Spain in the hope of finding a cash strapped person ready to cooperate.
The ring was offering immigrants up to 40,000€ plus medical expenses for anyone prepared to donate their liver, which apparently isn’t fatal.
Organ trafficking is illegal in Spain, as it is in most of the civilised world. However, it is legal to offer to donate, and Spain has one of the highest donor rates in Europe.
5 people have been arrested.
