First court order against Internet user for music piracy in Spain

For the first time in Spain, the music industry has managed to get a person barred from the Internet for music piracy.

The court order is against an internet user called nito75 who was accused by Promusicae of selling music tracks online.

Promusicae is an industry body made up of Sony Music, Universal Music, Warner Music y EMI.

The Court ruled that he appeared to be selling internet tracks online, or at least allowing his internet bandwidth to be used for this purpose, and has passed ruling that no ISP is to allow him internet access for one year, despite the fact that nobody could prove he was actually making any money from this.

It’s the first case of this type under the rather draconian ley de propiedad intelectual which passed strict anti-piracy laws after heavy pressure from the USA.
