President Griñán, head honcho of the Andalucian branch of the socialist PSOE and current President of Andalucía, has announced he is to stand down at the next regional elections (or maybe even before). At 67, he is rumoured to have some health problems, and the ongoing investigation into the ERE scandal, the jobs for boys scandal, the this scandal, the that scandal, etc, etc etc have all taken their toll. The Voynich manuscript – an alternate pet theory of mine

Going heavily away from my usual topics here, but hey, it’s my blog and I’ll do what I want! If you’ve never heard of the Voynich manuscript then I suggest you stop reading now, otherwise you’ll just get confused. The whole topic started when I got interested in some of the mathematical analysis that has been performed on the text of the Voynich manuscript. I started following and repeating some of the exercises, before getting Continue reading The Voynich manuscript – an alternate pet theory of mine

Mojacar’s Pirate market – not much lawbreaking going on there!

We were in Mojacar on Friday evening and so decided to visit the Pirate Market on the so-called “south beach”. No idea when it was rebaptised the “South beach of Mojacar”, but hey, go with the flow. And let me tell you, not much law breaking was going on there. The “pirates” were as respectful to Rosmari’s noise law as you could hope for. It was basically a bog standard medieval market, rebranded as a Continue reading Mojacar’s Pirate market – not much lawbreaking going on there!

50,000 tourists paid to fly into Almeria for their jollies

The Diputacion (city council) has announced a grand scheme to fly 50,000 tourists via 20 extra flights a week into Almeria airport this summer. Reading between the lines, the Diputacion has offered travel agencies across 13 different countries (including the nordic countries, Serbia, Portugal, Iceland, Russia, Poland, etc etc) discounts and free landing fees to bring the tourists here rather than elsewhere. By having the local government pay for cheaper flights, the tour ops can Continue reading 50,000 tourists paid to fly into Almeria for their jollies

Garrucha Virgen del Carmen 2013 festival programme

Here’s the festival programme for the 2013 Virgen del Carmen festival in Garrucha. That’s the big festival asking the patron saint to give her protection to the fishermen for another year. The main procession from the church to the port is on Sunday. Sadly, they don’t take you out to sea any more after that drunk fell overboard and drowned. Still a fun day out, tho’. Leaked railways document confirms no plans for Almeria’s AVE

A leaked document from ADIF, the railways operator, that Ideal newspaper got hold of, appears to confirm that those in power have no plans whatsoever to continue with the Almeria high speed train link. “Not one cent more for the railway in the province” according to Ideal. The document, which is a high level strategy document adjusting the national strategy for railways, says that the AVE to Murcia should be finished off, and then the Continue reading Leaked railways document confirms no plans for Almeria’s AVE

Mojacar townhall now has an online office (in crap English, too!)

Mojacar.es now has an online office allowing residents to carry out transactions with the townhall online. Find it online here. You need an digital signature to use it. It’s also in English! Probably written by Rosmari’s kid as part of his school homework. As bad as the rest of the site. For example, what does this mean? If you want to know any especific information for a citizen or for a company and proceed virtually, Continue reading Mojacar townhall now has an online office (in crap English, too!)

Baja Andarax will have no water this summer warns water company

Water supplies will run out this summer across the Baja Andarax region of Almeria this summer, unless the Junta frees up funds at once to carry out emergency repair works, warns the water company. The Baja Andarax is the area around Viator, the other side of Almeria, going up the river Andarax. The cut means leaving some 40,000 people without access to water, according to La Voz. The trouble is that the Junta needs to Continue reading Baja Andarax will have no water this summer warns water company
