Gay marriage is here to stay – Constitutional votes in favour

Gay marriage is here to stay in Spain after the Constitutional Court ruled this evening that it’s a fundamental human right that must be protected.

The ruling, passed by 8 votes to 3, means that gay marriage as it stands is Constitutional and not against any Spanish law.

This decision means that all judicial attempts to have the homosexual marriage law overturned have failed, including an attempt launched by the PP (current ruling party of Spain) back in 2005, which was the cornerstone of the attempt to overturn the law.

Although the text of the decision has not yet been released, the Court’s decision means the over 22,000 gay marriages celebrated so far in Spain since the law was passed are legal, and will remain so.
