Whilst watching the Olympic ceremonies, we were surprised to see a clip from the Spanish series Cuéntame cómo pasó projected onto the house during the “modern era” segment of the opening ceremony.
In it, you could clearly hear Antonio telling his daughter “there are fashions, and then there are fashions”. It’s a famous clip from the first series.
Cuéntame cómo pasó is a (very good) TVE series that explores the development of a Spanish family during the late Franco era and during the transitition – it’s been going for about 10 years now.
Anyway, RTVE have confirmed that they were approached a few weeks ago by Danny Boyle, who said that he was a bit of a fan of the series (Does he speak Spanish? A question for later), and that he was given permission to use the clip in the opening ceremony. It was, to the best of my knowledge, the only foreign clip in the whole montage.
