A drunken British resident of Nerja ran over a town councillor in the Malaga town of Nerja this morning, before fleeing.
A passing police patrol spotted the incident and followed the fleeing man home, where he was arrested as he parked his car. He was “substantially” over the limit, and according to witnesses was driving down the main street on the wrong side of the road. The town councillor had stepped out in front of him without checking in that direction.
Taken to hospital, the councillor was later sent home with just bruises and cuts. A townhall spokesman lamented that Brits often drove on the wrong side of the road, saying that a number of elderly residents appeared to be confused about how to drive in Spain.
