Spain asking for a “total emergency bailout” of 300 billion euros from Germany, according to Reuters

Reuters, the news agency, has claimed that Spain has secretly asked Germany to prepare a 300 billion euros bailout package to rescue the state after a number of regions within Spain have claimed bankruptcy and asked for bailouts. Gypsy shootout in Almeria leaves two dead, several injured

The Guardia Civil have made a series of arrests in relation to this mornings shootout between two rival Gypsy families in the Almerian suburb of Costacabana. It happened at around 3,30 am. Police have said the shootout started over an argument about “business matters” between the two interlinked families. Someone pulled a gun, someone else went to get Gramps’ shotgun, and we end up with two dead Gypsies, a couple injured and several arrests. 5.693.100 unemployed – even in summer, a further 53.500 unemployed

Spains unemployment has soared to record levels this summer, despite the fact that summer is traditionally the period where, what with beach bars, hotels and whatnot, unemployment drops due to temporary summer work contracts. Drunken Brit runs over Nerja town councillor whilst driving on the wrong side of the road

A drunken British resident of Nerja ran over a town councillor in the Malaga town of Nerja this morning, before fleeing. A passing police patrol spotted the incident and followed the fleeing man home, where he was arrested as he parked his car. He was “substantially” over the limit, and according to witnesses was driving down the main street on the wrong side of the road. WWF España have voted, by 226 votes to 13, to remove King Juan Carlos as honourary head of the organisation, after he was spotted a few months ago shooting elephants in Botswana. Tomorrow is the bicentenary of the Battle of Salamanca, in which British, Portuguese and Spanish troops under the Earl (later Duke) of Wellington defeated Napoleon’s Marshal Auguste Marmont in the rolling hills of Castilla y Leon, western Spain. To mark the anniversary of the first major offensive victory of the Peninsular War, one of the British Army’s “large regiments”, The Rifles, will be granted the unique honour of the Freedom of the City of Salamanca. Junta pays 12 million to settle software piracy case

The Junta de Andalucia has paid 12 millions euros to a “major international software company” in order to settle a complaint about the illegal use of software. It appears that government offices across Andalucia have been using pirated copies of this software, and an external audit of government computers detected “massive” use of pirated software on government PC’s.
