Variable speed limits to arrive in Spain

The head of traffic announced today that on top of reducing the speed limit on secondary roads to 90kph, and a possible increase on motorways to 130kph, he will introduce variable speed limits on all major motorways and toll roads.

The new traffic law, which is expected to be presented to Congress shortly after the summer recess, will contemplate a number of changes to the current system of roads, and will also contemplate a number of law changes to make roads in Spain safer.

Jorge Fernández Díaz, Minister of the Interior, also promised to continue the national crackdown on drivers using drugs. He claims that 19% of drivers in Spain drive under the influence of drugs, a “horrific figure”.
