The Andalucian health service (SAS) has announced that it will close around 45% of all medical centres in Andalucia in the afternoons this summer. The move will save Andalucia around 6,4 million euros in salaries, but will allow the SAS to concentrate resources on coastal medical centres to deal with the influx of tourists.
The idea is to close medical centres during quiet periods in the inland towns (between 2pm and 8pm) and reinforce services in all tourist areas.
Hospital beds amounting to around 13% of the total number available will also close during the summer, due to lack of demand for them in inland hospitals.
