Cuevas del Almanzora killer caught fleeing to Murcia

A gypsy who yesterday shot and killed a man from Gambia in Cuevas del Almanzora was seized by the Guardia Civil as he attempted to flee to family members who lived in the province of Murcia.

The killing happened yesterday at around 19.55, in calle Cuesta del Calvario, after neighbours called the police to report gunfire. Police arrived on the scene to find a 37 year old man from Gambia had been shot with a shotgun at pointblank range. He died on the way to hospital.

The Guardia Civil were able to identify the killer from eyewitnesses and launched a manhunt for him. A.N.N., a local gypsy who was “well known” in Cuevas, was seized by police as he drove past Aguilas, apparently fleeing to seek shelter from family members in Murcia.

Armed police were last night and today patrolling Cuevas del Almanzora to prevent revenge attacks, although none have been reported so far. Witnesses told Ideal newspaper that the attack appeared to be over a dispute about the payment of rent for an apartment.

  1. Hello, we live in Cuevas del Almanzora and have seen the riot police. This trouble has been bubbling for a long time. There are lots of immigrants in Cuevas del Almanzora, is this because we have a centre for immigrants here and other towns don’t? Who knows but I, as well as others, have thought that it probably wasn’t the best for the Red Cross to park their vans full of food, clothes, medical care etc. right infront of the gypsy area. Yes, I agree that these immigrants should be helped but in this crisis where everyone is suffering I think that it was very silly to hand out charity to one group, and in full view of everyone.

There are good and bad of all colours and in that area there are african women working more than likely as prostitutes. Where bad things happen and money is involved there will always be trouble. We have all seen it waiting to happen here but then again maybe with a British outlook on things. We look out at what is actually happening around us rather than the very sad Spanish trait of looking at the ground and pretending that all is ok?

The Junta de Andalucia should immediately arrange for coaches to take away the immigrants from that one area (where they all live in a big house owned I guess by this guy?) and taken to various other towns. Spread out the immigrants to other towns and then there is not one town with a melting pot of trouble waiting to boil over.

It was a matter of time before it happened and the authorities are to blame in my opinion. Every time a boat load of immigrants arrive where do they go, they go to where their fellow countrymen are. The authorities need to work together with the Red Cross and police to control this situation better. It’s not racist, just common sense.
