Fun cloud spotted off the coast of Almería

Like it? It’s called an alborino and it’s a special cloud formation sometimes seen in the Alboran sea off the coast of Almería. It’s caused when the poniente winds hits the levante wind, causing a mini whirlwind up the sky. The big splot on the coast, by the way, are the greenhouses of El Ejido. 8 medical centres in Níjar have no telephone / internet access (didn’t pay the bill?)

El Mundo reports that 8 medical centres in Níjar (Almería) have no telephone or internet access. They serve a population base of around 10,000 people. It seems that the Health Service has either cut off or never bothered to have installed telephone lines to these centres, although they have computers and the like in there. Doctors are complaining that they have to use their personal mobile phones to check patient records, or call for ambulances. Ouch – lowest number of mortgages issued for decades

Feb 2012 was the worst month for the issuing of mortgages for decades. Just 26,415 mortgages were signed that month, according to the INE stats people. A 47,1% fall from January, as El Mundo notes. 1,029 of these were signed in Almería (here’s the total breakdown in pdf format). By way of comparision: in Feb 2011 a total of 76,398 mortgages were signed. Feb 2010: 88,523. Feb 2009 a total of 86,946. Feb 2008: 124.919. No more free ambulance trips for non urgent cases as economic measures bite…

The new law ordering massive savings in the national health service of Spain contemplates charging patients the cost of the ambulance callout in “non urgent” cases, such as transport home after a visit to the hospital, or callouts for trivial cases. Although the implementation of such charges is down to the federal regions of Spain, the new law is expected to be quickly taken up by the bankrupt regions and implemented quickly (if quietly!).
