I like the comment “no-one had a bad word to say about him” they should have asked me!
I was a member of a golf club in Burton (Branston) when he was golf pro, he had to leave in a cloud after being exposed for ripping off a group of golfers over a holiday.
The person who exposed him (and his accomplice) had his work cut out as no one believed him initially and it took quite a while before others took notice.
I wonder if everyone who stuck up for him are doing the same now
