Estepona has been the first to come out and say it: Fine them, pocket the cash, legalise the homes and charge ’em IBI. We need the cash.
The townhall has opened a new office, and assigned a team to legalise as many of the homes as possible before the end of the year. The reason, according to the mayor, is that “the more homes we legalise, the more income for the town, and the faster, the better”.
Fair enough. Estepona owes 300 million euros and is technically bankrupt. The townhall is, in fact, now looking for more illegal properties to legalise, by sending out a dedicated team to inspect the place.
