Carboneras to get Spains first “petrol farm”

A Valencian company (Bio Fuel Systems SA) has signed a contract with Carboneras townhall to build Spains first petrol farm in the town. The concept appears to be simple, yet almost sci-fi: The farm uses CO2 produced by local industry (the power station comes to mind) to force microbes and algae to grow as fast as possible, in a sort of mini-greenhouse effect. Beach bar owner denounces Mojacar mayor for “politically” closing her beach bar

The owner of BBME, the beach bar closed by the Mojacar local police for allegedly infringing the new noise pollution order, has lodged a denuncia against Mojácar townhall, and in particular the mayor, claiming that the closure was “politically motivated”. An appeal against the closure claims that the by-law implemented in Mojácar is not legal, as it did not abide by the legal timelimits established by the federal law for the installation of the equipment. Got over 750k in assets? Get ready for the taxman

ZP’s latest idea is to bring back a wealth tax (the Impuesto sobre Patrimonios) which will tax the assets of anyone with over 750,000€. The tax hits private assets, whether this be a house, a boat, two cars or a pearl necklace. This tax was eliminated in 2007, although it raised some 2,100 million a year (or 0,2% of Spain’s 2007 GNP).
