Wacky races funds presented at Asprodalba Christmas show

Just before Christmas, the organisers of the Wacky Races 2010, Irene and Martyn of Taberna Cristina in Villaricos, handed over a cheque for €2,200 to Asprodalba at their Christmas spectacular – which is run every year by the expatriate community in Vera, Almeria.

As in previous years, many people gave up their free time to put on a superb performance for the students of the occupational centre just outside Vera. Artists included: singer Tony Justice, tap-dancers the Chicas de Oro, bellydancers Shirin and Banat Asshams, Flamenco dancers Anabel y Ricardo and the Adult Choir of Cuevas who sang a medley of Christmas carols. The event was organised by Anita of the Anita Watson Dance Academy. Her students performed some beautiful ballet to music from Tchaikovsky’s Swan lake, amongst other dances. Afterwards, Christmas presents – hand made by a group of friends who meet regularly in Vera Playa, were handed out to the students, much to their delight.

The Wacky Races is a fun event run in November every year in support of Asprodalba, where hand-pushed go-carts race against each other through the streets of Villaricos. As always, the money raised by the event will be used to further the work of the centre (now in its 30th year) which caters for some 85 people with various levels of learning difficulty, from around 10 different countries, who live in the Levante area.
